Artistic Jewish Wedding Photography

"Artistic" usually gets used to mean an editing preset, which is the least interesting thing it could mean. The photographs that survive are not the heavily treated ones; they are the ones where somebody made a decision at the moment of shooting — about where to stand, what to leave out, and what the light was doing.

In practice that is composition and restraint. Shooting the badeken through the crowd rather than over it, because the crowd is the point. Letting the chuppah be dark at the edges instead of lighting it flat. Black and white when colour is adding nothing but noise. And then editing hard: a thousand frames that are all technically fine, cut to the two hundred that are actually saying something. That last part is invisible in a portfolio and is most of the difference between a good studio and an average one.
