The brief

Show the parents what the brochure cannot.

A school is a place a parent has to feel before they will trust it, and a film does that in three minutes where a tour takes an hour. We have made films for Bader Hillel High, Cheder Menachem, JRLC Staten Island and Camp Gan Israel in Maine: the annual dinner film, the admissions video for the open house, the campaign video for the matching day, and the camp film that fills next summer's bunks.

We film a school day as it actually is — the shiur, the rebbi at the board, the playground, the choir rehearsal, a talmid explaining what he is learning — and we interview the people a parent wants to hear from: the menahel, a teacher, a parent, a graduate. The set comes with us, so interviews in the beis medrash or the office look like they belong on screen. Drone work over the campus when the building is part of the pitch.

The edit is built for how schools use it: the full film for the dinner screen and the website, a cut for the admissions page, and vertical versions for the WhatsApp groups where parents actually talk to each other. Photography from the same crew means the school gets its stills for the brochure and the website on the same days.

Questions

Asked before action.

How do you film in a school without disrupting the day?+

Quietly, and with the hanhala's plan. One or two crew in a classroom at a time, interviews in a room set aside for it, and the big set-ups — the drone, the group shots — scheduled around recess and dismissal.

Can the same film work for the dinner and for admissions?+

Usually we shoot once and cut twice: the dinner film is about the year and the people who made it; the admissions cut is shorter and speaks to a parent deciding. Both come from the same shoot days.

Do you work with schools outside New Jersey?+

Yes. Cheder Menachem, JRLC in Staten Island and Camp Gan Israel in Maine were all filmed on location. We plan the travel so it costs the school nothing in shoot time.
