Most Brooklyn bas mitzvahs are one evening in a hall or at home, they are almost entirely women and girls, and they are over faster than anybody expects. That last part is what catches photographers out. If the portraits of her with her mother and grandmother have not been taken by the time the food comes out, they are not going to be taken.

So the order is settled in advance: her, then her with her parents, then the generations, then the friends, and then the room is left alone and worked properly for the rest of the night. Female coverage is available and is not treated as a special request — for a great many families it is simply the requirement, and it should not have to be negotiated.
