The portrait most families actually want is the hard one: grandparents, parents and grandchildren together, a few of them under six, done in the twenty minutes before somebody needs a nap. That is planned before anybody arrives — who stands where, which grandchild sits on which lap, and how to get it done in one pass rather than three, so the youngest are still cooperating at the end. The individual family groups get taken as well, because the wall in your home and the wall in your parents' home want different pictures.
