A Bar Mitzvah at The Arches
At The Arches · Brooklyn, NY
A father helps with a belt, a mother adjusts a jacket, and a laugh changes the whole expression of a portrait. This bar mitzvah at The Arches in Brooklyn brings those small family gestures together with a thoughtfully styled gathering. CJ Studios photographed window light, brick, mirrors and the entrance steps as different settings for the portraits, then followed the celebration to its tables and speeches. Botanical details and pink candles give the room its character; siblings, grandparents and the young person at the center of the milestone give the story its warmth.

Room to be himself A portrait, not a performance.
Window light, a reflection and the lines of the entrance steps offer different ways to frame a bar mitzvah portrait. The strongest differences, though, are often in the expressions: a father and son laughing, siblings leaning together, a mother pausing to adjust a jacket. Monochrome brings some of those gestures into focus, while brick and the greenery outside give the wider portraits their setting. The sequence makes space for both a composed photograph and the person who appears when the pose relaxes.
Around the family table The occasion, in the details and the people.
White flowers, green grapes, woven chargers and pink candles give the long tables a distinctive, botanical feel. A wider view establishes that setting, while closer photographs return to the family gathered within it. Speeches at a clear lectern and an older relative's book presentation add quieter parts of the occasion to the portrait story. The details matter because they belong to this celebration; the expressions and relationships make those details feel lived in. Together, they hold the sense of a personal family gathering.
