The photography brief that comes with them is usually the same: cover it properly, do not stage it, and do not make everybody stand still for forty minutes.

That happens to be how we prefer to work. Family photographs are done efficiently and before the ceremony rather than in a long block afterwards while the cocktail hour empties. The ketubah signing gets photographed as the small, crowded, genuinely emotional thing it is rather than as a document shot. And the horah — which in this community goes on properly — is covered from inside it, with a second camera high enough to show what the room actually looked like. Photo and film, one team.
