Chasidish Wedding Photographer

Chasidish weddings are the most exacting simchas we photograph, and what is being asked for is restraint as much as skill. The order of the evening is fixed, the boundaries around what may be photographed are set by the family and their rav, and a photographer whose instinct is to get closer will be wrong roughly once an hour.

So the approach is the opposite. Long lenses, fixed positions, no interruption of anything, and a set of questions asked once, properly, weeks beforehand — where a camera may stand, how the women's side is to be handled, whether the mitzvah tantz is covered and how. What is left is a genuinely hard technical job: enormous rooms, very little light, a chuppah exposed against a bright sky, and no second attempt at any of it. That part is ours to solve and it should be invisible to everybody present.
